The Garmin nuvi 40LM is a basic but good GPS navigator. It lacks most of the bells and whistles of the more expensive models but it does get you to your destination. The Garmin nuvi 40LM is easy to use. It does not have voice-activated navigation but the touch-screen is significantly better than in earlier models.
Since the Garmin nuvi 40LM is a cheap GPS navigator it has a 4.3-inch display. Most of the more expensive models have a 5-inch screen. But the 4.3 inch screen is a good size, it is large enough to be easy to read but does not take up too much space.
Although the Garmin nuvi 40LM lacks many of the features of the more expensive models, it has two of the most useful features, lane assist and junction view. It will also display the current speed limit.
Note that the Garmin nuvi 40LM only comes with maps of the 48 continental states in the US (as well as Hawaii and Puerto Rico), no Canadian or Mexican maps are included. On the other hand, you get free lifetime map updates. A nice feature that extends the practical lifetime of the Garmin nuvi 40LM. You can also buy the slightly cheaper Garmin nuvi 40, which is the same GPS navigator but without free map updates.

Garmin nuvi 40LM Owner Review
I have been using the Garmin 40LM for several weeks now. Although it does not have a lot of “bells and whistles” it gets the job done. I especially like the map updating capability. The only minor negative I have experienced so far was that it took a couple of minutes to acquire satalites when I was in downtown Orlando recently. Normally this process takes seconds. Perhaps the tall buildings had something to do with it. Over all I like the unit and would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend. You can read more Garmin nuvi 40LM reviews here
